EARLY INTERVENTION

WHAT IS EARLY INTERVENTION?
Early Intervention refers to activities, programs and initiatives designed to alter the behavior or development of individuals who show signs of an identified problem, or who exhibit risk factors or vulnerabilities for an identified problem, by providing the resources and skills necessary to combat the identified risks.
Early intervention includes intervening early in life or at an identified transition phase in a person’s development to ensure that they are supported in their most formative years. Alternatively, it refers to intervening as soon as a problem is apparent.

WHO NEEDS EARLY INTERVENTION?
Early intervention is for children ages birth to 5 years having any problems with their speech, language, hearing, physical, behavioral, IQ, social skills. It provides assessment, rehabilitation and counseling and support for children and their families.
There has been a lot of research done which has shown that early intervention can improve a child’s overall development thus contributing to the better quality of life. The presence of a child with any special needs like autism, hearing loss, hyperactivity, developmental delays, cerebral palsy, cleft lip and palate, low IQ etc in a family can pose everyday challenges which can be overwhelming. Therefore intervention focuses on both child and parent, where parents learn how to manage their child’s physical, mental, communication, social and emotional needs. Thus enabling them to prepare themselves for the journey ahead confidently and enjoy the process of bonding with their child.
